Feature documentary: The Irish Pub is a celebration of the greatest institution in Irish society: the pub. Or, more specifically, the Irish men and women who own them. The characters featured come from long family lines of pub owners. Their hilarious and captivating stories take us into the heart of the Irish pub, and give us a glimpse into what it means to be Irish.
The film is part of Alex Fegan's trilogy on the tragic loss of small, privately owned businesses in Ireland, looking at three aspects of the national psyche that are being eroded: The Irish Pub (Tradition), Abbeyfealegood (Connection) and The Toy Shop (Imagination).
Winner of numerous awards including Best Film at the London Irish Film Festival and the Audience Award at The Windows on Europe Film Festival. It premiered in the USA as part of the Toronto Irish Film Festival, followed by the Boston Globe Doc series and the Savannah International Film Festival. It was listed by the AV Club as being one of the top 20 Best Irish Films of all time and was the only documentary on the list.
