About Atom Films
Atom Films is a Dublin-based production company dedicated to creating ambitious, cinematic films that connect deeply with audiences at home and internationally. At the heart of our work is a belief in finding distinctive ways to capture the extraordinary depth within ordinary human lives.
Our films have screened theatrically around the world and have been acquired by major broadcasters and streaming platforms. We have worked with leading Irish and international sales and distribution partners, including Autlook Filmsales, Element Pictures and Wildcard Distribution.
We also collaborate with co-production partners in Ireland and overseas while developing a slate of documentary and drama projects with directors who have strong individual voices.
Atom Films is led by co-founders Alex Fegan and Aileen O’Carroll.
Alex Fegan
Co-Founder · Director & Producer
Alex Fegan is an award-winning Irish director and producer. A three-time IFTA nominee and two-time RTS Award winner, Alex’s work has also been recognised with a Torc Award of Excellence and the Best Documentary award at the Galway Film Fleadh.
Selected directing credits include The Essence of Eva, Older Than Ireland, Sins of Ireland, The Irish Pub, Am I Here? and Abbeyfealegood. His most recent film, The Essence of Eva, won audience awards at the Vancouver International Film Festival and FilmFest DC.
The Irish Pub was named by The A.V. Club as one of the 20 best Irish films of all time, while Older Than Ireland, a New York Times Critic’s Pick, became one of Ireland’s highest-grossing documentaries and is now a prescribed film for Junior Cycle English in Irish secondary schools.
Alex has been commissioned by RTÉ, the BBC and Virgin Media, with his work also acquired internationally by platforms and broadcasters including Netflix and PBS. He is a qualified lawyer.
Aileen O’Carroll
Co-Founder · Producer
Aileen O’Carroll is an award-winning Irish producer whose work spans documentary and drama. Her producing credits include Sins of Ireland, Am I Here?, The Irish Pub, The Toy Shop and The Irish Wedding.
Sins of Ireland was released in 25 cinemas across Ireland in 2025 to widespread critical acclaim, while The Irish Wedding was nominated for an RTS Award.
She was production manager on Older Than Ireland and has worked on productions commissioned by the BBC and RTÉ. Most recently, she produced A Traveller Family for RTÉ with support from Coimisiún na Meán and executive produced the drama Murphy vs Christmas, which premiered at the 2026 Galway Film Fleadh.
Aileen is a qualified lawyer and holds a Certificate in Mediation from the Law Society of Ireland, as well as a degree in English and Irish from University College Galway.
